SHAHJAHANPUR
Acting on the directionof the Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement), Bareilly, the Transport Department launched a special drive against illegally operated buses and overloaded vehicles across the Shahjahanpur district on Friday night.
A joint team comprising officials of the Transport Department and Traffic Police conducted intensive inspections at various locations in the district. The enforcement operation was led by ARTO (Enforcement) Hari Om, Passenger and Goods Tax Officer R.P. Gautam, along with transport department teams from Bareilly and Badaun and personnel from the Traffic Police.
During the drive, nearly 60 buses were inspected. Authorities issued challans to 14 buses and seized 12 others for violations of transport regulations. Passengers travelling in the seized buses were shifted to state-run roadways buses and transported safely to their destinations.
The enforcement team also penalized three dumpers carrying mining material and three other overloaded vehicles. In a separate action, three auto-rickshaws were detained at different police stations for carrying passengers beyond the permitted capacity, while seven others were fined.
Officials further took action against the illegal transportation of passengers in goods vehicles. Four such vehicles were fined and two were seized. Additionally, two vehicles were detained for non-payment of taxes.
According to the Transport Department, enforcement measures taken during the operation involved violations amounting to nearly ₹9 lakh. The department warned vehicle owners against violating transport and traffic regulations, stating that strict action would continue against overloaded vehicles, tax defaulters, and those operating in breach of prescribed rules.
