Shahjahanpur: The district police arrested six persons for allegedly cheating online stock market investors of several crores of rupees by promising triple returns on their investments, officials said on Friday.
The accused have been identified as Twinkle Gupta, Prajwal Saxena, Nihal Saxena, Divyanshu, Siddhant Mishra and Rohit Rathore, all residents of Shahjahanpur.
Police said the gang lured investors by assuring unusually high returns and shared links directing them to a fake trading website. Victims were made to transfer money through QR codes, while fabricated profits were displayed on the portal to gain their confidence.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said the probe was initiated following a complaint received on the cyber helpline regarding repeated fraudulent calls from a particular mobile number.
In a separate statement, SP Ashok Dwivedi said the gang had an extensive network spanning Delhi, Gujarat, Bihar and several other states. He added that the accused persuaded investors to bring in additional funds from others before siphoning off the money into multiple bank accounts.
Several complaints have also been lodged against the accused in other states, police said.
During the arrests, police recovered laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards, printers and other equipment allegedly used to carry out the fraud, officials added.
