Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited Ganga Expressway in Hardoi district on April 29.
The approximately 594-kilometre-long access-controlled expressway has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹36,230 crore. The project will connect Meerut to Prayagraj, linking 12 districts and significantly reducing travel time between the two cities from 10–12 hours to nearly six hours.
One of the key features of the expressway is a 3.5-kilometre-long emergency landing strip constructed in Shahjahanpur, which can be utilised for both civilian and defence purposes.
The project is expected to play a pivotal role in accelerating the economic growth of the state. Plans are underway to develop industrial and logistics hubs along the expressway, which will help boost investment. Improved connectivity will enable farmers to transport their produce to markets more efficiently, while also promoting tourism and generating new employment opportunities.
The Ganga Expressway will further strengthen high-speed connectivity in Uttar Pradesh by linking with major road networks, including the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. These initiatives aim to enhance logistics efficiency, attract investments, and ensure balanced regional development across the state.
The expressway will pass through 12 districts—Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj—forming a new industrial development corridor. It is expected to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities across the region while reducing travel time.
Meanwhile, in Shahjahanpur, district authorities convened a meeting to ensure the participation of beneficiaries in the inauguration programme. District Magistrate D. P. Singh reviewed arrangements, including the number of beneficiaries attending the event and related logistical preparations.
DM had been directed to complete all necessary arrangements within the stipulated timeframe to ensure that participants do not face any inconvenience. Instructions have also been issued to ensure that buses reach designated locations on time, and a detailed list of beneficiaries, along with their contact numbers, is prepared.
The District Magistrate emphasised that adequate transport and security arrangements must be ensured. All buses will depart on the morning of April 29, with beneficiary safety and convenience accorded top priority.
Additionally, a live telecast of the inauguration programme by the Prime Minister will be arranged in Shahjahanpur. The district administration has also issued directives to the traffic police to remain on alert and implement route diversions to ensure smooth movement during the event.
