SHAHJAHANPUR:A man who allegedly affixed the Ashoka emblem and the words “Government of India” on his car to evade toll tax and police checking was arrested in Shahjahanpur district, officials said on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said a case was filed late Tuesday night by Rajat Sharma, a resident of Katra, who alleged that the accused, Kaleem Khan, throttled him with the intention to kill, causing him to lose consciousness.
“When the police traced and detained Khan, he was found sitting in a vehicle that displayed the ‘Government of India’ tag along with the Ashoka emblem in the number-plate area,” the SP said.
Police seized the car and initiated action for misuse of government insignia.
During interrogation, Khan admitted he had been using the fake symbols to avoid paying toll tax and to bypass police checking drives. He also confessed that he used the emblem to project an impression of authority and intimidate people, officials added.
Arrested accused have sent to jail.
