Established or the district police.
Addressing a press conference, Mr. Vishwakarma alleged that both the government and the police administration had failed to discharge their responsibilities effectively. Referring to the Chief Minister’s alleged “thok do” (shoot-at-sight) approach, he questioned the transparency of encounter operations and sought clarity on the criteria under which such actions were being carried out.
He also accused the government of selectively using bulldozer action, alleging that demolition drives disproportionately targeted members of the PDA bloc — comprising Backward Classes, Dalits and Minorities — while influential individuals and those in positions of power remained untouched.
Responding to a question on whether similar action should be taken against those accused in the alleged Ram Temple donation scam, Mr. Vishwakarma said that if the government’s policy was to act against offenders, the law should be enforced uniformly, irrespective of caste, religion or political affiliation.
Mr. Vishwakarma further claimed that he had intended to meet the family of a one-year-old alleged sexual assault victim but was prevented from doing so by the police. He said authorities should have heard all parties concerned before arriving at any conclusion in the case.
Questioning the police version of events, the former minister alleged that the case could involve a false First Information Report (FIR) and referred to reports of financial transactions allegedly linked to the matter. He described the encounter action as being contrary to constitutional principles and questioned the legal basis under which such operations were being conducted. He also accused the government of shielding police personnel.
Criticising the State government’s encounter policy, Mr. Vishwakarma demanded compensation of ₹10 lakh for the family of Guddu Sharma and sought action against police personnel found responsible for any wrongdoing.
He further alleged that Guddu Sharma had been taken from his village and shot in both legs without a proper investigation being conducted. Mr. Vishwakarma also claimed that a significant number of individuals affected in alleged fake encounter cases belonged to PDA communities.
The former minister’s remarks come amid continuing political debate over police encounters and the use of bulldozer action in Uttar Pradesh.
