Shahjahanpur- Former IIa Chairman and VHP Leader Arrested in Rape Case
In a significant development, the Lucknow Police have arrested Abhinav Omar, former Chairman of the Indian Industries Association (IIA) and a prominent leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), on serious charges of rape. The arrest follows a complaint lodged by a woman from Lucknow, who accused Omar of rape. She also alleged that Omar’s wife demanded ₹25 lakh in exchange for not making a video of the incident public and that Omar threatened her with an acid attack if she reported the crime.
On Saturday afternoon, following the FIR registration, the Lucknow Police, assisted by local authorities, apprehended Omar in Shahjahanpur. After completing the necessary legal formalities at the local police station, the team took Omar back to Lucknow. Despite efforts by prominent city figures to intervene on Omar’s behalf, the police proceeded with the arrest without yielding to their appeals.
The complaint, filed on July 15, accuses Omar of rape and extortion. The victim reported the crime at the Women’s Police Station in Lucknow. During the investigation, she alleged that Omar’s wife threatened her with public dissemination of incriminating videos unless she paid a substantial amount.
After the arrest, SP City Sanjay Kumar confirmed that the Lucknow Police had traveled to Shahjahanpur to execute the arrest warrant and had successfully taken Omar into custody. The case is under further investigation.
