Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled a series of significant welfare measures aimed at improving the lives of millions of workers and labourers across the state on the occasion of International Workers’ Day.
The announcements mark a major push towards strengthening social security, healthcare access, and overall living standards for the workforce.
Addressing a gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized that workers form the backbone of the state’s development, and ensuring their safety, dignity, and well-being remains a top priority for the government. He noted that the state has already increased daily wages for labourers and is now focusing on ensuring they fully benefit from healthcare and social security schemes.
In a move to streamline access to welfare programmes, the government announced further strengthening of the labour portal, along with the launch of a new website for the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Board. The upgraded digital platforms will enable workers to easily access information about various government schemes, reducing the need for frequent visits to government offices.
A major highlight of the announcements was the foundation laying of a 300-bed hospital in Greater Noida. Spread across seven acres, the hospital is intended to provide quality healthcare services primarily to workers and their families. The initiative is seen as a crucial step towards addressing one of the most pressing concerns of the labour community—access to affordable and reliable medical treatment.
Further strengthening social security measures, the Chief Minister urged industrialists and employers to ensure health insurance coverage for workers. Under the proposed framework, labourers would be eligible for medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh at empanelled hospitals, helping safeguard families from financial distress during medical emergencies.
The state government’s Labour Day initiatives underscore its broader commitment to inclusive growth, with a clear focus on improving both the economic and social conditions of Uttar Pradesh’s vast workforce.
