Shahjahanpur: Mock Drill Conducted in Shahjahanpur to Tackle Flood Situation

In a proactive measure to tackle potential flood situations, a mock drill conducted on Thursday in flood-prone areas of Shahjahanpur district. Senior officials were present to oversee the preparedness exercise.

At the Hanumat Dham ghat on the Khannaut River and in Alhadadpur Bayari village of Jalalabad, demonstrations and awareness activities were organized to educate the public on disaster response and safety protocols.

During the mock drill at Hanumat Dham, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) practiced rescue operations, including the evacuation of people in the event of a boat capsizing in floodwaters. Additional District Magistrate Arvind Kumar described the exercise as a test of community cooperation and teamwork.

In Jalalabad, villagers were informed about precautions to be taken during floods. Demonstrations included the use of tongas and tractor-trolleys for safe evacuation. Officials and personnel from the fire department, disaster response teams, health department, animal husbandry, and revenue department participated in the exercise.

Background: Last Year’s Flood Impact

Last year, Shahjahanpur experienced significant flood damage, especially in the Sadar, Kalan, and Jalalabad regions. Key statistics include:

Affected areas: 54 villages and localities in Sadar, 19 in Tilhar, 41 in Jalalabad, and 4 in Kalan.
Population affected: Approximately 94,450 people.
Area impacted: 2,370.02 hectares.
Crop damage: Compensation of ₹4.17 crore distributed among 10,705 farmers.
Property damage: 270 houses were damaged, with ₹16.48 crore distributed in relief.
