Shahjahanpur: The District Youth Congress Committee strongly protested the alleged damage to statues of martyrs on Shaheed Diwas. Under the leadership of district president Ram Ji Awasthi, members burned an effigy of the Municipal Corporation administration at the main gate of the civic office.
Awasthi termed the incident “highly condemnable and unfortunate,” stating that in a city known for its martyrs, such an act on Martyrs’ Day was unacceptable. He alleged that statues were damaged by a contractor in the name of beautification.
He further said that these statues had stood for over 40 years and symbolised respect and inspiration for the people. He demanded strict action against those responsible, including officials and contractors, warning of intensified protests if no action is taken.
Several party members and local leaders were present during the protest.
