Shahjahanpur: With rising temperatures and the threat of heatwave condition, the district administration and the Municipal Corporation have begun preparation to mitigate the impact of extreme heat on residents.
A review meeting held at the Collectorate, chaired by the Municipal Commissioner dr Bipin Mishra and the Additional District Magistrate Arvind kumar along with officials from concerned department were present.. During the meeting, Municipal Commissioner Vipin Kumar Mishra stressed the need to expand the city’s green area network as a key long-term strategy.
Mr. Mishra said the primary objective of the action plan was to provide relief to citizens who venture outdoors during daytime hours in summer and to reduce incidents of heatstroke. He reiterated that special emphasis would be placed on increasing green cover across the city.
As part of the measures, more shade-giving trees will be planted along roadsides to provide natural shelter to pedestrians. The administration also discussed arrangements to protect two-wheeler riders and commuters waiting at traffic signals from direct sunlight. The number of public drinking water points (pyau) will be increased at prominent locations, catering not only to people but also to animals and birds. Regular irrigation of plants and trees will be ensured to prevent heat-related damage.
The Municipal Commissioner added that community centres located within group housing societies and large apartment complexes could also be utilised as heat relief spaces. These centres would be made accessible to the general public in a manner that does not inconvenience residents.
In addition, existing passenger shelters within the Municipal Corporation area will be repaired, and 10 new passenger sheds will be constructed soon to provide adequate shaded spaces for commuters.
