A firm directive against encroachments was issued at the Shahjahanpur Municipal Corporation’s general body meeting held on Friday at the Vikas Bhawan auditorium. In the presence of Uttar Pradesh’s Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, the House unanimously approved the municipal budget for the financial year 2026–27.
The approved budget estimates an income of ₹425.86 crore against an expenditure of ₹415.75 crore. The meeting was presided over by Mayor Archana Verma.
Addressing the House, Mr. Khanna made it clear that encroachments on city roads, footpaths and drainage channels would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He directed civic officials to impose a minimum fine of ₹1,000 on those found re-encroaching after removal.
During the meeting, councillors strongly raised issues related to the poor condition of roads, irregular water supply, malfunctioning streetlights and inadequate sanitation. Responding to the concerns, the Minister instructed officials to ensure deployment of staff in proportion to population, carry out regular cleaning of drains, maintain proper street lighting and ensure continuous monitoring of gaushalas.
