Notorious Criminal Held After Police Encounter in Shahjahanpur

Shahjahanpur (UP): A suspected criminal was arrested following a police encounter under the Nigohi police station limits, police said on Tuesday.
The accused sustained a bullet injury during the exchange of fire and has been admitted to a hospital.
According to the ASP (City), the accused had allegedly snatched an earring from a woman near the Hamzapur bypass in Nigohi and was planning to commit another offence. Acting on the information, a police team reached Hamzapur crossing late at night.
The ASP said the police team attempted to apprehend the suspect, who tried to flee towards Kataiya Usmanpur village. During the chase, the criminal lost control of his motorcycle and fell. He then attempted to escape on foot.
He allegedly opened fire on the police team. In retaliatory firing, the accused was injured after being hit by a bullet in his right leg and was apprehended on the spot.
The arrested accused has been identified as Veeresh alias Shiva Rathore, a resident of Shahabad in Hardoi district.
Police recovered a country-made pistol (.315 bore), one live cartridge, one spent cartridge, the looted earring, a stolen Splendor motorcycle, and ₹210 in cash from his possession.
The injured accused was initially taken to the Community Health Centre in Nigohi and later referred to the district hospital in Shahjahanpur after primary treatment.
Further legal proceedings are underway, police added.
