Shahjahanpur: An Anganwadi worker died under suspicious circumstances, with her daughter alleging excessive work pressure by departmental officials as a key factor behind the tragedy.

The deceased, identified as 45-year-old Preeti, a resident of Gadiyana in Sadar Bazar police station limits, was posted as an Anganwadi worker. Her daughter, Smita, has levelled serious allegations against officials, claiming that despite not receiving her salary for the past four months, she was लगातार pressured by the District Programme Officer (DPO) and a municipal employee to continue working.

Smita recorded a video in an ambulance, which has since gone viral, holding the officials accountable for her mother’s death. She further alleged that her mother’s salary was withheld due to a bank account issue. When Preeti approached authorities to update her account details, she was allegedly humiliated.

According to the family, sustained mental stress severely affected Preeti’s health, ultimately leading to her demise on Wednesday evening.

Following the circulation of the video, District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh has ordered a probe into the matter. The City Magistrate has been directed to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a report. The district administration has assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
