Shahjahanpur/Sambhal, July 2: Sambhal Police arrested Raj Kumar Gupta, Assistant Additional Municipal Commissioner posted in Shahjahanpur, on Wednesday in connection with an alleged government land scam. A police team from Sambhal reached the Municipal Corporation office in Shahjahanpur, where Gupta was taken into custody. He was later produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
According to the police, the case relates to an alleged scam involving approximately 38 bighas of government land situated along the Sambhal–Moradabad State Highway. The land is estimated to be worth around ₹101 crore.
The investigation revealed that in 2013, Raj Kumar Gupta was serving as the Executive Officer (EO) of the Sambhal Municipal Council. He is alleged to have failed to effectively pursue the matter before the High Court, resulting in irregularities concerning the government land.
The alleged scam came to light after a land measurement exercise conducted under the supervision of District Magistrate Ankit Khandelwal and Superintendent of Police Krishna Bishnoi. Based on a complaint filed by Revenue Official (Lekhpal) Sparsh Gupta, an FIR was registered against the then EO Raj Kumar Gupta, 31 named individuals, and other unidentified persons under the relevant provisions of law.
The investigation is ongoing, and further legal proceedings are underway.
