Shahjahanpur- Samajwadi Party district president and former chairman Tanveer Khan submitted a memorandum to District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh on Saturday, demanding action to stop the alleged harassment of people bringing non-banned animals for sacrifice during Eid-ul-Adha.
He said that during Eid-ul-Adha, Muslims offer the sacrifice of permitted animals such as goats and buffaloes as part of their religious faith for three days. He added that people follow all rules laid down by the district administration and the Uttar Pradesh government.
Tanveer Khan said several complaints have been received from different parts of Shahjahanpur. He alleged that people bringing animals to their homes for sacrifice, without causing any traffic disruption, are still being threatened by the police.
He further alleged that people transporting animals from markets to their homes and madrasas are being stopped and harassed on the way by police personnel and some BJP and RSS-linked groups.
He said that in some places, the tradition of sacrifice has been observed for the past 15 to 20 years, but since these locations are not officially recorded at police stations and outposts, people face difficulties on the day of sacrifice.
He demanded that the administration immediately address these issues and ensure that no one is unnecessarily harassed.
At the time Atiullah Siddiqui, Mahipal Singh Yadav,Anil and Shahnawaz were present.
