Shahjahanpur – As part of the ongoing “Operation Conviction” campaign, launched to instill fear among criminals and ensure strict punishment for serious offences, the Shahjahanpur police have achieved a major success. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Dwivedi, a total of 161 criminals have been sentenced to life imprisonment so far under this special initiative.
The campaign, which began in July 2023 across Uttar Pradesh, aims to strengthen police prosecution in serious criminal cases. The Shahjahanpur police have also successfully imposed fines amounting to nearly ₹1 crore on the convicted offenders.
SP Dwivedi stated that a special team was formed in the district to speed up hearings of pending cases and to ensure convictions. The team worked closely with the prosecution to build strong cases, particularly in heinous crimes. As a result, convictions were secured in 75 serious cases, including those involving murder, rape, and offences under the POCSO Act.
In addition to the life sentences, 31 convicts were awarded 20 years of imprisonment, while over 60 others received sentences exceeding 10 years.
One notable case mentioned by the SP involved a gang rape incident in the Roza police station area, where the accused, Kashav and Kumar Paul, were sentenced to life imprisonment.
SP Dwivedi emphasized that “Operation Conviction” will continue with the same rigour and commitment, with the district police remaining proactive in their efforts to ensure justice through stringent legal action against criminals.
The state-wide campaign, initiated on July 1, 2023, is focused on securing convictions in serious criminal cases through active police advocacy and efficient legal processes.
