**SHAHJAHANPUR, – Marking the 55th birthday of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a tree plantation drive was organised at the campus of Swami Shukdevanand University on Thursday. The programme was conducted near the Post Office and Homeopathic Hospital premises with the objective of promoting environmental conservation and sustainable living.
The initiative was organised under the inspiration of Vice-Chancellor Prof Pushpendra Bahadur Singh and witnessed active participation from Registrar Virendra Kumar Maurya, faculty members, non-teaching staff and students of the university.
The plantation drive commenced with the planting of saplings by Dean Student Welfare Prof Kamlesh Gautam. Addressing the gathering, he said that environmental conservation should not be confined to observance on a single day but must become an integral part of daily life. He urged students to plant more trees and take responsibility for their regular care and maintenance.
During the programme, a variety of shade-giving, fruit-bearing and medicinal plants were planted across the campus to strengthen the university’s green cover.
Head of the Department of Botany Dr Adarsh Pandey and National Service Scheme (NSS) Programme Officer Dr Arun Kumar Yadav said that several activities were being conducted under the “World Environment Day Pre-Campaign” to promote environmental awareness, cleanliness and a green lifestyle. They emphasised that the objective of tree plantation extends beyond planting saplings and includes spreading environmental consciousness and encouraging society to protect nature.
At the conclusion of the programme, participants pledged their commitment to environmental protection, water conservation and large-scale tree plantation. Among those present were Dr Avneesh Mishra, Prof Rakesh Kumar Azad, Prof Alok Mishra, Prof Prabhat Shukla, Prof Aditya Kumar Singh, Dr Shishir Shukla, Dr Kavita Bhatnagar, Dr Balveer Sharma, along with teachers, staff members and NSS volunteers.
